Potty Training Policies

As we are dealing with young children here, potty training policies must be discussed. The following are my policies:

  • I will participate in potty training as soon as it starts at home. I will not do potty training until all parties are on the same page and have the same expectations for the child.
  • I do not put children to be in underwear until they are in underwear full-time aside from nap/night times.
  • I have a small potty chair for use downstairs by children 3 and under but all children above that age are required to use the toilet upstairs.
  • Children using the potty chair will be given privacy while doing so and taken upstairs directly after to wash their hands.
  • If the child being potty trained is throwing a fit about sitting on the potty, I will not fight that battle.
  • Additionally, relating to the above policy, as soon as an infant/toddler is mobile i.e. able to stand stably, they will be changed in a standing position on the floor for wet diapers to prevent them from rolling off of the changing table as this is often an issue with mobile infants/toddlers. For poopy diapers, they will have the choice of having their diapers changed on the changing table or on the floor, again, to prevent dangerous situations from happening.
